Author and playwright Howard Odentz is a lifelong resident of the gray area between Western Massachusetts and North Central Connecticut and has called Somers, CT, home for the past decade. His love of the region is evident in his writing, which often weaves the foothills of the Berkshires and the small towns of the Bay and Nutmeg States into his stories.
A former director of communications at MassMutual, Howard also owned Wilbraham’s Little Brook Farm, a small llama, goat, and chicken farm where he and his husband—Scantic River Artisan glass artist David Gilfor—raised Nigerian dwarf goats, produced more eggs than they could count, and provided free premium poo courtesy of their small herd of appaloosa llamas.

Creatively, Howard is the writer, lyricist, and composer of two full-length musicals—In Good Spirits and Piecemeal. He is also an Amazon #1 best-selling author of young adult and emerging adult thrillers and chillers. Since publishing his first novel in 2012, he has penned six novels, two novellas, and a collection of short stories. He is currently finishing an epic fantasy allegory, The Mouse Who Broke the Sky, inspired by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. A departure from his usual genre, this new novel—written for readers aged 8 to 80—will be illustrated by fellow Scantic River artist Karen Burke.
Howard is also collaborating with several members of Scantic River Artisans on Puddleby Charities, a nonprofit organization that uses the arts in all forms to raise money for populations in need.
