Scantic River Artisans is a Western Mass based art association in Hampden MA. The Scantic River Artisans began as the Hampden Scantic River Artists over 20 years ago. Our first exhibit was held at the Gallery of Laughing Brook where twelve local artists exhibited. The idea of a local artists group grew! Opportunities for more exhibition venues and recruitment of other artists began.
The group has exhibited at The First Church Gallery in Springfield, Longmeadow, The Wilbraham Public Library, The little Red School House in East Longmeadow, Hampden Town Hall, The Historical Society Building and local businesses in Hampden, MA. In 2007, the group organized the Big H Arts festival for Hampden, highlighted by an art exhibit, musicians, children's activities and food provided by local churches and beautiful floral arrangements provided by the Hampden Garden Club.
In 2014 the group was reorganized and membership was extended to surrounding areas and all types of artisans. The group then started to look for a permanent home for exhibits and seminars. We feel very privileged to have been given the opportunity to have our group housed in the Hampden Senior Center Community Room. A beautiful building and a perfect space with hundreds of feet of gallery space. Our Grand opening exhibit was launched January 2017 and was attended by over 300 guests. The group has continued to grow and looks to the future for additional opportunities.
