I inherited my artistic talent from my mother’s side of the family. My mother had me painting in oils when I was nine years old. I have continued to draw and paint ever since. I still have tubes of paint and brushes that were hers.
My journey has been sporadic and eclectic. I have photos of 700 paintings I have created over the last 65 years. They include crayon, color pencil, watercolor, oil, acrylic, graphite, charcoal, pastel, and mixed media.
Some of my work is done in quick freehand, other at home or in class with great focus. All of my earlier work was realistic – scenes, still life, and some portraits. Over the years I have taken many art classes. In 2019 I wanted to loosen up and took an abstract art class. I bonded with three other artists in that class. After the class was over, we decided to meet on our own and have done so every week since. We are the Abstract Art Squad.
I paint for the fun and challenge of it. My works have no deep meaning. I have no single artistic voice or vision. I am constantly trying new things.
